Electricity prices vs all items

Power bought from outside BC

Net imports are electricity received from other provinces and the United States minus electricity delivered to them. BC relies mostly on hydro power, so dry years can turn it from a seller into a buyer.

What these measures cover

Prices: Statistics Canada table 18-10-0004-01, consumer price index for electricity and for all items, British Columbia, monthly, not seasonally adjusted. Both are rebased to 100 at the chosen start month. BC Hydro rates usually change on April 1, so the electricity index moves in steps.

Supply: Statistics Canada table 25-10-0016-01, electric power generation, receipts, deliveries and availability, British Columbia, in megawatt-hours (shown as GWh and TWh). Receipts and deliveries include trade with other provinces and the United States. Net imports are calculated by this site; fiscal years run April to March, as at BC Hydro.
