OTHER STATISTICS / WAGES & WORK

Where are BC jobs changing?

Follow the labour market beyond the unemployment rate. Compare public, private and self-employed job changes, alongside labour participation.

Loading official data…

Unemployment rate

Share of the labour force without work and looking for work. A lower rate can also reflect people leaving the labour force.

Which sectors added or lost jobs?

Monthly change in people employed, not job vacancies or hires. Bars above zero show growth; bars below zero show declines.

Labour participation rate

Share of people aged 15+ who are working or looking for work.

Sources & definitions

Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey. British Columbia, age 15+, total gender, seasonally adjusted. Rates are percentages; changes in rates are percentage points (pp). Employment figures are people, converted from the source's thousands.

Public sector employees include government and publicly controlled organizations, including public education and health institutions. Private sector employees exclude the self-employed. The three classes together approximately equal total employment; small differences can reflect source rounding.

Monthly estimates can be volatile and are subject to sampling uncertainty and revisions. Employment change measures the net change in people working, not new hires, layoffs or open jobs. Provincial public-sector estimates are broader than the core BC Public Service.

Snapshots are refreshed by the site's scheduled official-data workflow. All indicators use their latest shared available month. Missing or suppressed values are never replaced with zero.
